Description:

We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our inpatient care and ICU — ideal for someone who stays calm under pressure and wants to help animals during their most vulnerable moments. You’ll assist in caring for dogs, cats, and sometimes exotics who’ve been rescued, surrendered, or abandoned. You’ll feed, bathe, and clean up after animals, ensuring their kennels and living spaces are safe, dry, and comfortable. You’ll help clean enclosures, prepare species-specific diets, and monitor food intake and waste patterns. You’ll help administer medications, record dosages, and ensure patients stay on their treatment schedules. You’ll clean and disinfect boots, tools, and mobile gear between sites to avoid cross-contamination. You’ll support oxygen therapy, nebulization, and heating pad use under the direction of veterinary technicians. You’ll assist with sample collection (urine, fecal, etc. You’ll support emergency calls involving lameness, colic, birth complications, or animal injuries in barns or fields. You’ll document patient updates clearly in logs or medical software to assist the veterinary team with continuity of care.

Basic Qualifications:

• Support veterinarians during exams and procedures by restraining animals safely and gently.
• Monitor animal behavior and report any unusual signs or symptoms promptly.
• Build trust with clients through empathy, active listening, and clear communication.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, or continuing education when available.
• Sterilize instruments and prepare surgical packs for upcoming operations.

Preferred:

• Willing to assist in feeding, bathing, walking, and monitoring animals in recovery or boarding.
• Able to communicate clearly with pet owners about post-care instructions, appointments, or check-in procedures.
• Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and supportive.
• Comfortable handling cats, dogs, and other small or exotic animals during exams, treatments, or grooming.
• Comfortable handling biological waste, using disinfectants, and practicing biosecurity and PPE use.
