Description:
We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker to help keep city infrastructure clean, safe, and operational — perfect for someone who values hands-on work and community service. You’ll perform a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks including street cleaning, park upkeep, and facility support. You’ll be trained to use cones, warning signs, and reflective gear to secure work zones and direct nighttime drivers safely. You’ll be trained to operate tools like valve keys, hydrant wrenches, pressure gauges, and inspection cameras. You’ll help inspect fountains and decorative lighting systems, reporting clogs, cracks, or malfunctions to technicians. You’ll help flush hydrants, clean storm drains, and clear catch basins to ensure proper flow during heavy rain. You’ll help prep event spaces, install signage or barricades, and support public gatherings by setting up benches, bins, or barriers. You’ll assist in maintaining planter beds, edging grass near walkways, and watering trees or greenery throughout the space. You’ll be expected to pick up litter, remove graffiti, and empty waste bins regularly along trails, picnic areas, and pavilions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Assist with installation or upgrades of pipes, meters, hydrants, or other public service components.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members to stay aligned on tasks and priorities.
- Work independently or in crews to complete assignments efficiently and professionally.
- Uphold high standards of public trust by treating community infrastructure with care and respect.
- Participate in ongoing training for certifications, safety standards, and new technologies.
Preferred:
- Capable of working independently or in a team to meet deadlines and service goals.
- Willing to participate in job-related training, certifications, or equipment operation courses.
- Able to set up signs, barricades, or traffic cones to ensure a safe work area.
- Familiar with handling chemicals, paints, or cleaning agents in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Values responsibility, safety, and hard work in serving the local community.
Benefits:
- Overtime opportunities — earn more by contributing extra hours during high-demand times.
- Supportive team environment — you’ll work with colleagues who respect your contributions and expertise.
- A professional, respectful environment — you’ll work with a team that values your skills and contributions.
- A sense of purpose — every day, you help improve the quality of life for your community.
- You’ll make a tangible impact — keeping the lights on, water flowing, and gas available is a critical service.
You’ll rotate between emergency calls and preventative maintenance tasks under the direction of senior crew members. You’ll follow detailed work orders and document materials used, zones serviced, and any issues found during inspection. You’ll rotate across neighborhoods, business districts, and industrial roads, adjusting to shifting nightly priorities. You’ll be expected to stay alert, work steadily in the dark, and report any hazards that arise mid-task. You’ll receive guidance from senior staff and ongoing training in city procedures, equipment use, and safety practices. You’ll help make streets safer and smoother by working when the city is quiet but the job still matters. No experience is required — just responsibility, physical readiness, and a strong desire to serve your community directly. If you're ready to care for the spaces where people walk, relax, and play, we’re ready to bring you on as a vital part of the parks team. If you’re ready to care for the places where the city gathers, strolls, and rests — we’re ready to bring you onto the team.
