Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee who’s curious, organized, and excited to help people connect with knowledge, stories, and resources every day. You’ll assist in loading and organizing books, magazines, and multimedia materials into the mobile library van or bus before each route. You’ll learn how to set up temporary reading stations at schools, senior centers, rural stops, or community events. You’ll help set up and clean up after storytime sessions, puppet shows, or activity hours in the kids’ zone. You’ll be trained to create colorful displays and book-themed bulletin boards that make the space inviting and engaging. You’ll learn how to prepare materials for climate-controlled storage, using acid-free folders, boxes, and careful labeling. You’ll assist with research requests from historians, students, or institutions looking for specific materials. You’ll learn how to restock the vehicle based on community interest and monitor what gets borrowed at each location. You’ll gain experience maintaining a welcoming, flexible space in a small but functional mobile environment.

Basic Qualifications:

• Take pride in making the library not just a place for books, but a hub for lifelong learning.
• Implement policies to ensure respectful use of materials, computers, and library spaces.
• Respond calmly and resourcefully to challenging situations, from tech issues to noise complaints.
• Assist students or researchers with citations, academic sources, or archival materials.
• Support literacy development through storytime, tutoring, or educational outreach initiatives.

Preferred:

• Wants to grow into roles like Head Librarian, Archivist, Digital Resource Manager, or Library Director.
• Experience managing physical and digital collections, including acquisition, classification, and circulation of materials.
• Enjoys connecting people with knowledge, information, and lifelong reading habits.
• Familiar with processing interlibrary loans, managing memberships, and library card registrations.
• Capable of developing resource guides, reading lists, and thematic displays based on seasonal or cultural topics.
