We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support daily care at our animal shelter — perfect for someone who’s compassionate, patient, and ready to help pets in transition find healing and hope. You’ll be trained to handle small, delicate animals safely and without causing stress or injury. You’ll assist with physical exams of cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, and outdoor dogs, ensuring proper restraint and comfort. You’ll assist in holding animals for exams, beak trims, wing clippings, scale checks, or temperature readings. You’ll clean and disinfect boots, tools, and mobile gear between sites to avoid cross-contamination. You’ll feed, bathe, and walk animals as needed — especially boarding pets or post-operative patients. You’ll assist with sample collection (urine, fecal, etc. You’ll support emergency calls involving lameness, colic, birth complications, or animal injuries in barns or fields. You’ll help introduce shy animals to enrichment toys, soft bedding, and positive human interaction to ease their stress.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Assist during euthanasia procedures with compassion and professionalism.
  • Work with a variety of animals—dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and sometimes exotic species.
  • Comfort anxious animals and reassure owners throughout the visit or procedure.
  • Feed, bathe, and walk animals according to care instructions or recovery plans.
  • Assist with collecting samples such as blood, urine, or feces for lab testing.

Preferred:

  • Pays attention to detail when measuring dosages, labeling samples, or updating charts.
  • Values compassion, attention to detail, and patience in all interactions with animals and owners.
  • Familiar with inventory control, restocking supplies, and ordering medications or lab kits.
  • Organized in maintaining medical records, labeling medications, and preparing treatment areas.
  • Enjoys helping animals feel safe and cared for while supporting the veterinary team.

Benefits:

  • Job stability in an ever-growing field — animals will always need care, and your role is essential.
  • A fulfilling career — helping animals in need gives you a sense of purpose every day.
  • You’ll work with a variety of animals — from pets to exotic creatures, every day brings something new.
  • Health, dental, and retirement benefits — we care about your well-being, both inside and outside of work.
  • Paid time off and sick days — because you deserve to take care of yourself too.

You’ll help calm nervous owners, explain procedures, and assist with aftercare instructions for animals being treated on-site. You’ll rotate between species and tasks, gaining experience with everything from poultry to draft horses. You’ll be trained to recognize signs of stress or illness in animals and act quickly to notify the vet team. You’ll rotate between front desk support and hands-on care, learning how the full clinic operates smoothly. You’ll communicate gently with worried owners during updates, drop-offs, or end-of-life discussions as needed. You’ll be part of a team that values compassion, communication, and keeping animals as comfortable as possible. If you’re ready to care for creatures with feathers, scales, and twitching noses — we’re ready to train you where most never go. This position is ideal for someone considering a veterinary technician career or simply looking to make a difference in pet care. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
