Description:
We’re looking for a Trainee Tailor who’s ready to learn one of the most respected and useful trades — tailoring. As a Tailor Trainee, you don’t need any experience, just patience, focus, and the willingness to learn slowly and properly. You’ll begin by supporting experienced tailors with small but important tasks like organizing tools and preparing garments. You’ll start by learning how to measure correctly, cut fabric cleanly, and use sewing machines safely. Expect to assist with simple tasks like hemming pants, fixing buttons, and prepping garments for alterations. As your confidence grows, you’ll get hands-on with sewing machines and learn how to stitch straight, strong, and clean. You’ll be trained by master tailors who will guide you through techniques that take years to perfect. Over time, you’ll grow more confident with tools like seam rippers, pressing irons, chalk, and industrial machines. This job is about precision — small changes can make a big difference in how a garment fits and feels.
Basic Qualifications:
- Track work orders, deadlines, and fittings using logs, client cards, or digital systems to ensure timely delivery.
- Maintain professional communication with clients regarding fitting appointments, pickup times, and alteration recommendations.
- Track materials and supplies needed for upcoming projects, helping maintain stock of threads, linings, and zippers.
- Create new garments from scratch using client measurements, design sketches, or pre-made patterns for custom tailoring orders.
- Shorten, lengthen, taper, or let out garments based on client requests or seasonal trends.
Preferred:
- Pays strong attention to detail and maintains consistency in every stitch and seam.
- Able to calculate fabric usage, reduce waste, and manage cutting layouts efficiently.
- Familiar with different stitching techniques, patterns, and finishing methods for a clean, professional look.
- Able to follow custom instructions or adjust standard patterns to meet individual client needs.
- Background or interest in fashion, garment design, costume creation, or textile work.
Benefits:
- You get credited for your craft — your name can be part of the label.
- Quiet workspace, no chaos — just the hum of the machine and good lighting.
- Work in a peaceful, focused environment — your needle, your music, your rhythm.
- Needle breaks, fabric woes? There’s always someone to help — no drama, just teamwork.
- Flexible hours — early birds, night owls, part-timers — welcome.
You’ll use tools like measuring tapes, chalk, seam rippers, irons, and industrial sewing machines. You’ll be mentored by seasoned tailors who value discipline, humility, and love for the craft. You’ll build an understanding of fabric types, tension settings, and when to hand-sew instead of machine-stitch. This is a job for someone who loves precision, patterns, and the quiet satisfaction of a perfectly finished seam. Each day, you’ll touch timeless tools and build a skill that machines alone can’t replace. Whether it’s shortening sleeves, adjusting waists, or replacing zippers — you’ll learn the small fixes that make a big difference. By the end of your training, you’ll have real skills, a trained eye, and a path forward in a respected trade. If you’re ready to turn curiosity into craftsmanship, and effort into expertise — this is your moment to begin. If you're ready to build a skill you can use for life — and maybe even turn it into a career — we’ll help you start from zero.
