Description:
We’re looking for a Game Writer who can turn mechanics into meaning, quests into emotions, and dialogue into unforgettable moments — someone who sees games not just as systems, but as stories you live inside. You’ll be responsible for crafting compelling narratives, characters, and lore that breathe life into our worlds and gameplay loops. You’ll collaborate closely with narrative designers, quest developers, and world builders to integrate story naturally into gameplay. We expect you to bring voice, humor, tension, and humanity to every line — even the ones hidden in optional dialogue. You’ll help shape the game’s lore, faction histories, and moral dilemmas that define the player’s journey. You’ll build rich backstories, world histories, and quest arcs that support immersion and drive exploration. You’ll work in dialogue trees, pacing charts, and narrative logic maps to ensure choices feel meaningful and emotionally real. We’ll rely on your ability to write with clarity across tones — whether it’s light banter, emotional confession, or philosophical tension. You’ll also work with VO directors and localization partners to ensure lines land emotionally across cultures and performances.
Basic Qualifications:
- Be flexible and creative when rewriting for design changes or voiceover constraints.
- Edit and refine scripts based on pacing, playtests, and team feedback.
- Champion the player’s perspective—how will this moment feel, sound, or land emotionally?
- Work with localization teams to make sure story and jokes translate across cultures.
- Write item descriptions, loading screen tips, journal entries, and other flavor text that enhance immersion.
Preferred:
- Pays attention to narrative consistency, lore logic, and emotional tone across the entire player journey.
- Can contribute to main storylines, side quests, character banter, or interactive tutorials.
- Experience writing dialogue, character arcs, and storylines for games, interactive fiction, or narrative-driven experiences.
- Can write character bios, item descriptions, quest text, and in-game journal entries with consistent voice and tone.
- Able to balance narrative ambition with practical limitations like localization, animation timing, or budget constraints.
Benefits:
- Pitch plot twists, NPC backstories, or item flavor texts — it all matters.
- Write for main quests, side stories, item descriptions, loading screens — the whole world.
- Weekly narrative syncs where we workshop, laugh, and sometimes cry.
- We celebrate plot holes fixed, characters born, and jokes that actually land.
- We support your growth — GDC talks, narrative bootcamps, or your own IP someday.
You’ll participate in feedback rounds, iterate quickly, and know when to kill your darlings for the sake of flow or clarity. You’ll collaborate with level designers to embed story into the world — not just as text, but as space, silence, and symbol. You’ll be involved in script reviews, localization support, and VO direction to ensure tone carries across languages and voices. You should be confident working in branching tools, narrative spreadsheets, and with voice and localization pipelines. This role is ideal for a writer who thinks cinematically, edits like a screenwriter, and plays like a poet. We value writers who are flexible, collaborative, and open to iteration based on gameplay needs and design shifts. If you believe the most powerful stories are the ones players piece together themselves — this is your kind of job. Let’s create stories players don’t just follow — but shape, question, and carry with them long after the credits roll.
