Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to support our academic library team — ideal for someone who’s detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and passionate about learning in a higher education setting. You’ll assist in loading and organizing books, magazines, and multimedia materials into the mobile library van or bus before each route. You’ll assist in labeling, filing, and organizing physical collections according to archival standards and cataloging systems. You’ll be trained to answer common questions — from finding a specific author to locating quiet study areas or using the catalog. You’ll support digital literacy by helping students access e-books, log into library accounts, or troubleshoot Wi-Fi and printer issues. You’ll support inventory and shelf maintenance, making sure materials are correctly shelved, clean, and easy to find. You’ll assist with digital resources, helping patrons access e-books, databases, and computer services. You’ll be shown how to redact sensitive information in public records and follow privacy policies for restricted collections. You’ll help create finding aids, tags, and descriptions to make archives easier to search and access.

Basic Qualifications:

• Track metrics like visitor stats, program attendance, or material circulation for reporting.
• Manage circulation activities such as checkouts, returns, renewals, and late fees.
• Maintain a quiet, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere for study, learning, and exploration.
• Assist students or researchers with citations, academic sources, or archival materials.
• Oversee the acquisition of new books, periodicals, and digital materials based on community demand.

Preferred:

• Willing to enforce library rules respectfully and de-escalate disturbances when necessary.
• Degree in library science, information science, or a related field with knowledge of cataloging systems.
• Thrives in quiet, organized, mission-driven environments focused on education and access.
• Pays attention to metadata accuracy, Dewey Decimal Classification, or Library of Congress standards.
• Open to working in academic, public, school, or special libraries depending on the role.
