Description:

We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our mobile and rural veterinary service — perfect for someone who’s dependable, flexible, and ready to work beyond the clinic walls. You’ll assist with hospitalized patients recovering from surgery, trauma, or illness, providing constant observation and comfort. You’ll help monitor vitals such as temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, hydration, and behavior throughout the day. You’ll help restrain animals during exams, vaccinations, or intake evaluations with a gentle, calming approach. You’ll assist with health assessments, logging weight, temperature, condition, and any visible injuries or stress signals. You’ll be trained to respond quickly to signs of distress, notifying veterinary staff immediately during critical changes. You’ll be trained to monitor behavior, noting signs of aggression, fear, illness, or improvement and updating the care team. You’ll assist during emergencies such as injured strays arriving or outbreaks requiring isolation and sanitation protocols. ) and prepare them for lab testing. You’ll work in unpredictable settings — from muddy barns to open pastures — and adapt quickly when conditions change.

Basic Qualifications:

• Monitor animal behavior and report any unusual signs or symptoms promptly.
• Take pride in making animals feel safe, seen, and cared for—even when they can’t say thank you.
• Stay calm and composed when animals are in pain, scared, or aggressive.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, or continuing education when available.
• Work with a variety of animals—dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and sometimes exotic species.

Preferred:

• Comfortable handling biological waste, using disinfectants, and practicing biosecurity and PPE use.
• Wants to grow into roles like Veterinary Technician, Animal Nurse, or Vet Clinic Manager.
• Experience assisting veterinarians or working with animals in clinics, shelters, farms, or grooming settings.
• Willing to support surgical prep, sterilization, or post-operative monitoring under supervision.
• Comfortable comforting anxious animals or clients and offering reassurance during visits.
