Description:
We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to focus on the technical inspection of vehicles — perfect for someone who’s detail-oriented, mechanically curious, and committed to public safety standards. You’ll monitor late-night bus, tram, and metro services to ensure schedules are followed, stops are respected, and passengers feel safe. You’ll check braking systems, lighting, signaling devices, doors, suspension, and emergency equipment according to checklists. You’ll assist in inspecting ticketing systems, validating fare compliance, and interacting with passengers when needed. You’ll coordinate with overnight drivers, dispatchers, and transit security to report incidents or equipment failures immediately. You’ll observe passenger behavior during peak hours and report unsafe activity, suspicious items, or escalator hazards promptly. You’ll coordinate with drivers, station attendants, and law enforcement when managing difficult situations or fare disputes. You’ll help passengers understand how to purchase tickets, recharge travel cards, or file complaints or questions if needed. You’ll inspect shelters and waiting areas for damage, cleanliness, or safety concerns, and submit maintenance requests if needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ensure accessibility standards are met for passengers with disabilities or mobility needs.
- Respond to complaints from passengers calmly and take appropriate steps to resolve issues.
- Adapt quickly to changing environments, route changes, or emergency situations.
- Work closely with drivers, controllers, and law enforcement to ensure smooth operations.
- Check tickets and passes, verifying passenger compliance with fare regulations.
Preferred:
- Background or interest in public service, transport systems, or civic compliance.
- Able to check passenger tickets or passes, verify fare validity, and issue warnings or fines when necessary.
- Pays close attention to schedule adherence, cleanliness, safety compliance, and rider conduct.
- Enjoys being active, interacting with people, and ensuring a high standard of service for the community.
- Able to document violations, prepare incident reports, and cooperate with law enforcement or supervisors when needed.
Benefits:
- You’ll never be bored — every day brings new challenges and new passengers.
- You’re not just enforcing rules — you’re helping people get to their destinations safely and on time.
- Work in different environments — you’ll get to work on buses, trains, stations, and more.
- You play a key role in the community — ensuring reliable and safe public transportation for everyone.
- Stable hours and predictable shifts — you'll know exactly when you're working.
You’ll be expected to remain visible and approachable to deter misconduct and help passengers navigate the system. You’ll rotate through different lines, stations, and time zones — including early mornings, evenings, and occasional overnight shifts. You’ll be expected to walk, stand, ride, and occasionally drive between transit points throughout your shift. You’ll help audit maintenance records, verify service intervals, and confirm that repairs have been completed and signed off. You’ll be expected to stay alert and professional during extended hours, especially between 11 PM and 5 AM shifts. You’ll receive mentorship from senior inspectors who will train you in metro-specific protocols and observation strategies. You’ll work in indoor and outdoor conditions, sometimes during poor weather or with limited lighting. If you’re ready to keep public transport safe, timely, and respectful for everyone — we’re ready to train you to inspect with purpose. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
