Description:
We’re looking for a Game Writer who thrives at the intersection of dialogue, drama, and decision-making — someone who can write conversations players *want* to have, not skip through. You’ll be responsible for crafting compelling narratives, characters, and lore that breathe life into our worlds and gameplay loops. You’ll collaborate closely with narrative designers, quest developers, and world builders to integrate story naturally into gameplay. We expect you to bring voice, humor, tension, and humanity to every line — even the ones hidden in optional dialogue. You’ll help shape the game’s lore, faction histories, and moral dilemmas that define the player’s journey. You’ll develop character arcs that evolve with the player, making each interaction feel part of a larger journey. You’ll contribute to storyboards, scripts, and VO-ready scenes that blend seamlessly with gameplay beats. You’ll help structure how information is delivered — through environment, collectibles, NPCs, and interactive moments. You’ll contribute to naming, world logic, and content polish — even in the small stuff like flavor text or tutorial VO.
Basic Qualifications:
- Write item descriptions, loading screen tips, journal entries, and other flavor text that enhance immersion.
- Collaborate in narrative design meetings to brainstorm quests, scenes, or major plot beats.
- Write stories players don’t just read or hear—but remember long after the game ends.
- Balance story ambition with production realities—sometimes less is more.
- Adjust writing to fit visual storytelling—sometimes showing is better than telling.
Preferred:
- Enjoys crafting meaningful player choices, compelling characters, and rich fictional worlds.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional teams with designers, artists, and audio professionals.
- Understands the difference between environmental storytelling, cutscene writing, and gameplay-integrated narrative.
- Able to collaborate with game designers, narrative leads, and developers to ensure story integrates smoothly with gameplay.
- Knows how to write text that supports gameplay clarity without overwhelming the player.
Benefits:
- We test story beats as seriously as mechanics — narrative is gameplay too.
- We celebrate plot holes fixed, characters born, and jokes that actually land.
- You’ll see your work come to life — voiced, animated, and memed by players.
- And yes — we love when you hide deep lore in item descriptions no one reads.
- Mental health check-ins and days off when your plot twist hits *you* too hard.
You’ll participate in feedback rounds, iterate quickly, and know when to kill your darlings for the sake of flow or clarity. You should be comfortable working in narrative engines or writing within technical pipelines (like Ink, Twine, or proprietary tools). You should be comfortable using narrative design tools and working in nonlinear, branching systems. You should be confident working in branching tools, narrative spreadsheets, and with voice and localization pipelines. You’ll edit and rewrite frequently, collaborating with gameplay teams to adapt to evolving mechanics and priorities. We want someone who can write with both structure and spontaneity, and who respects the rhythm of gameplay as much as the plot. If you believe storytelling in games is interactive, reactive, and deeply human — this is the world we want to build with you. Let’s build a world that feels ancient, lived-in, and worth getting lost in.
