Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee who’s curious, organized, and excited to help people connect with knowledge, stories, and resources every day. You’ll begin by learning how to shelve books accurately using classification systems like Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress. You’ll learn how to set up temporary reading stations at schools, senior centers, rural stops, or community events. You’ll help patrons browse materials, check out books, and register for library cards right on the spot. You’ll be trained to use portable scanners and laptops to manage inventory and update user accounts in real time. You’ll support arts-and-crafts activities, helping distribute supplies, supervise table work, and encourage kids to participate. You’ll help set up academic displays that highlight new research, university achievements, or relevant resources by department. You’ll learn how to restock the vehicle based on community interest and monitor what gets borrowed at each location. You’ll gain experience answering common questions from parents and teachers about literacy levels, educational resources, or program schedules.

Basic Qualifications:

• Provide instruction on how to use library databases, search tools, and public computers.
• Implement policies to ensure respectful use of materials, computers, and library spaces.
• Recommend books and resources based on reader interests, age, or research topics.
• Promote library services both in person and online to broaden community engagement.
• Respond calmly and resourcefully to challenging situations, from tech issues to noise complaints.

Preferred:

• Familiar with processing interlibrary loans, managing memberships, and library card registrations.
• Capable of developing resource guides, reading lists, and thematic displays based on seasonal or cultural topics.
• Enjoys connecting people with knowledge, information, and lifelong reading habits.
• Willing to train or supervise interns, volunteers, or junior staff members.
• Experience managing physical and digital collections, including acquisition, classification, and circulation of materials.
