Description:

We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee to join our garment care and alteration team — perfect for someone who enjoys practical sewing, helping people feel confident in their clothes, and learning real-world tailoring skills. You’ll begin by assisting with simple repairs such as sewing on buttons, fixing loose hems, and reinforcing seams. You’ll assist in steaming gowns, pinning trains, and prepping dresses for fittings or hand detailing. You’ll be trained to sew by hand and by machine, reinforcing seams, adjusting straps, and tailoring bodices for a flawless fit. You’ll help with fittings, measuring clients, and making note of necessary adjustments to improve comfort and silhouette. You’ll receive coaching on how to maintain even seam allowances, meet speed goals, and inspect your own work as you go. You’ll support quality control by flagging stitching errors, skipped seams, or material flaws before garments move forward. You’ll be taught how to press garments properly using steamers and irons to give each piece a polished look. You’ll help organize threads, fabrics, trims, and fasteners to keep the workspace clean and efficient.

Basic Qualifications:

• Handle delicate or high-value garments with extra attention and discretion.
• Consult on fabric choice, style, or custom modifications when asked for input.
• Sew, alter, and repair garments by hand or using industrial sewing machines with precision and care.
• Pin, mark, and baste fabrics during the alteration process to ensure accuracy.
• Work with a variety of materials including silk, denim, wool, and stretch fabrics.

Preferred:

• Comfortable performing clothing alterations, repairs, or custom fittings for individual clients or production needs.
• Familiar with stitching techniques including hemming, darting, pleating, and zippers.
• Comfortable using patterns, mannequins, or digital design tools when needed.
• Able to communicate with designers, tailors, or customers about custom orders or fitting requests.
• Wants to grow into roles like Tailor, Patternmaker, Fashion Designer, or Atelier Lead.
