Description:

We’re hiring a Mail Carrier Trainee for our urban bicycle delivery team — perfect for someone who enjoys movement, independence, and getting mail where it needs to go quickly. You’ll start by learning high-density city routes, using maps and GPS to navigate alleys, apartment blocks, and busy streets efficiently. You’ll be trained to load your delivery bag properly, keeping packages protected and organizing mail by building and floor. You’ll assist in delivering letters, postcards, and small parcels directly to mailrooms, drop boxes, or front doors. You’ll drive through a mix of paved and unpaved roads, stopping at mailboxes, gates, or porches to complete deliveries. You’ll support pickups as well — collecting outgoing mail from offices, businesses, and shared residential buildings. You’ll assist with organizing mail for different carrier routes, grouping by zip code, street, or delivery order. You’ll help collect outgoing mail from rural homes, pickup boxes, or roadside stands as part of your route. You’ll be trained to lift properly, use carts or dollies, and follow safety procedures for repetitive tasks and heavy loads.

Basic Qualifications:

• Scan barcodes and update tracking systems in real time using handheld devices.
• Contribute to a team environment when helping with sorting, rerouting, or training new hires.
• Collect outgoing mail from homes and drop boxes, ensuring proper postage and handling.
• Operate a mail truck, bicycle, or walk route safely while respecting traffic laws and weather conditions.
• Assist with bulk mail pickups or deliveries for local businesses and organizations.

Preferred:

• Able to work in a variety of neighborhoods and maintain professionalism with every customer interaction.
• Able to maintain accuracy when delivering letters, parcels, registered mail, or certified items requiring signatures.
• Organized in returning undeliverable items, collecting outgoing mail, and reporting address issues or obstacles.
• Comfortable with early morning shifts, holiday work, or extended hours during peak seasons.
• Willing to sort incoming mail in preparation for daily delivery rounds.

You’ll build stamina and rhythm — balancing speed and safety during peak hours or in tight delivery windows. You’ll assist with closing duties such as counting till drawers, securing outbound mailbags, and locking storage areas. You’ll be mentored by experienced clerks and carriers who will help you build communication and coordination skills. You’ll receive feedback and support throughout your internship to help you grow more confident with each route.
