Description:
We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker for night shifts focused on street and roadway maintenance — ideal for someone who’s dependable, alert, and comfortable working after hours to keep the city running. You’ll assist in cleaning and maintaining fountains, seating areas, open pavilions, and paved walkways around public plazas and city centers. You’ll assist with removing litter, sweeping sidewalks, and emptying trash bins in public areas on a set schedule. You’ll help maintain green spaces by trimming grass, watering plants, clearing brush, and spreading mulch as needed. You’ll help inspect fountains and decorative lighting systems, reporting clogs, cracks, or malfunctions to technicians. You’ll assist in cleaning playgrounds, benches, grills, fountains, and other park fixtures to ensure safe and sanitary use. You’ll learn how to document service activity, collect water samples, and report pressure or quality issues accurately. You’ll support seasonal work such as snow shoveling, salting walkways, or removing storm debris during weather events. You’ll assist with basic facility maintenance such as restroom cleaning, minor repairs, and restocking supplies in public buildings.
Basic Qualifications:
- Adapt to changing weather conditions, urgent calls, or rotating shifts without compromising safety.
- Track and document maintenance activities, time logs, and material usage accurately.
- Maintain vehicles and tools by checking for wear, damage, and performing routine servicing.
- Use detection tools to identify gas leaks, pressure drops, or flow disruptions.
- Work independently or in crews to complete assignments efficiently and professionally.
Preferred:
- Organized in completing daily work orders, time logs, and material usage reports accurately.
- Thrives in active, team-oriented environments where public service and reliability are key.
- Wants to grow into roles like Crew Leader, Equipment Operator, or Utility Supervisor.
- Pays attention to safety protocols when working near traffic, construction zones, or underground systems.
- Willing to support cleanup operations after storms, roadwork, or public gatherings.
Benefits:
- Access to employee discounts — on services and products that support your personal and professional life.
- Stable pay and bonuses — we reward hard work and dedication to maintaining reliable services.
- Competitive pay — your work in maintaining public utilities is well-compensated and valued.
- Paid training and certifications — we invest in your professional growth and safety.
- Recognition for your hard work — public utility workers are essential, and your contributions don’t go unnoticed.
You’ll assist in loading materials, fueling machines, and prepping trucks at the start and end of each shift. You’ll be expected to work early mornings, weekends, or holidays during park events, city cleanups, or public celebrations. You’ll work as part of a small crew where communication, reliability, and pride in your work are key. You’ll interact courteously with the public and answer basic questions about services or scheduled activities. You’ll be mentored by experienced utility operators who will help you develop long-term trade skills on the job. You’ll be mentored by senior team members and receive seasonal cross-training across multiple civic zones. No experience is required — just pride in public service, attention to detail, and a steady work pace. This role is great for someone who values calm, rhythm, and helping create a clean space people can enjoy every day. If you’re ready to care for the places where the city gathers, strolls, and rests — we’re ready to bring you onto the team.
