We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee to support our costume department — perfect for someone who’s creative, flexible, and excited to help bring characters to life through clothing. You’ll begin by learning how to work on an assembly-style production line, focusing on speed, accuracy, and consistency. You’ll assist in steaming gowns, pinning trains, and prepping dresses for fittings or hand detailing. You’ll help pin garments for fitting under supervision, learning how to read body language and measure for comfort as well as fit. You’ll learn how to reinforce seams, add hidden snaps or Velcro for stage changes, and hem garments to suit choreography or blocking. You’ll learn how to make alterations on dresses, pants, jackets, and uniforms — from shortening sleeves to reshaping waists. You’ll learn how to add custom elements like lace appliqués, bust cups, buttons, and corset back closures. You’ll be taught how to press garments properly using steamers and irons to give each piece a polished look. You’ll rotate across workstations over time to expand your knowledge of garment construction from start to finish.

Basic Qualifications:

• Communicate clearly with clients about alteration timelines, design requests, and garment care.
• Replace zippers, buttons, linings, and other garment components as needed.
• Work with a variety of materials including silk, denim, wool, and stretch fabrics.
• Maintain a respectful, collaborative attitude when working in shared studios or tailoring shops.
• Measure clients and garments accurately to ensure a perfect fit and flattering silhouette.

Preferred:

• Willing to assist in pressing, steaming, and final presentation of finished pieces.
• Able to communicate with designers, tailors, or customers about custom orders or fitting requests.
• Familiar with cutting fabric efficiently to reduce waste and maintain pattern integrity.
• Able to read patterns, take accurate body measurements, and follow detailed sewing instructions.
• Organized in managing multiple sewing projects, client deadlines, or production quotas.
