Description:
We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support the care of exotic animals — perfect for someone who’s curious, gentle, and excited to work with species beyond cats and dogs. You’ll assist veterinarians on farms, ranches, and rural homes, caring for livestock, working animals, and outdoor pets. You’ll be trained to handle small, delicate animals safely and without causing stress or injury. You’ll help restrain animals during exams, vaccinations, or intake evaluations with a gentle, calming approach. You’ll be trained to help during herd checks, pregnancy exams, vaccinations, castrations, and wound treatments in varied environments. You’ll support diagnostic procedures like fecal analysis, blood draws from nontraditional veins, and radiographs for tiny patients. You’ll assist with medical documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting findings during field visits or wellness rounds. You’ll assist with sample collection (urine, fecal, etc. ) and prepare them for lab testing. You’ll assist with handling emergencies like heat stroke, egg binding, or impactions in reptiles or birds.
Basic Qualifications:
- Clean cages, kennels, and surgical areas to maintain a sterile, stress-free environment.
- Be the heartbeat behind the scenes that keeps the clinic running smoothly every day.
- Handle front desk duties including scheduling, answering phones, and processing payments when needed.
- Take pride in making animals feel safe, seen, and cared for—even when they can’t say thank you.
- Administer medications or treatments under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
Preferred:
- Experience assisting veterinarians or working with animals in clinics, shelters, farms, or grooming settings.
- Comfortable handling biological waste, using disinfectants, and practicing biosecurity and PPE use.
- Background or passion in animal care, veterinary science, zoology, or pet services.
- Familiar with cleaning cages, exam rooms, surgical instruments, and medical equipment following hygiene protocols.
- Enjoys helping animals feel safe and cared for while supporting the veterinary team.
Benefits:
- A fulfilling career — helping animals in need gives you a sense of purpose every day.
- Paid time off and sick days — because you deserve to take care of yourself too.
- Opportunities to work in different areas — surgery prep, animal recovery, emergency care, and more.
- The ability to make a direct impact — your care and attention to detail matter to every animal you treat.
- You’ll work with a variety of animals — from pets to exotic creatures, every day brings something new.
You’ll clean cages, dishes, blankets, and floors multiple times a day as part of core hygiene routines. You’ll help manage feeding schedules, syringe feeding, or IV nutrition when patients can’t eat independently. You’ll be trained to recognize signs of stress or illness in animals and act quickly to notify the vet team. You’ll rotate between front desk support and hands-on care, learning how the full clinic operates smoothly. No experience is required — just strength, stamina, and a deep respect for animals and the people who care for them. This position is ideal for someone pursuing zoological medicine, exotic rescue, or a unique path in veterinary care. This role is perfect for someone who believes every animal deserves a second chance and wants to be part of that journey. This position is ideal for someone considering a veterinary technician career or simply looking to make a difference in pet care. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
