Description:

We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our mobile and rural veterinary service — perfect for someone who’s dependable, flexible, and ready to work beyond the clinic walls. You’ll assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures, ensuring animals are calm and secure. You’ll be trained to handle small, delicate animals safely and without causing stress or injury. You’ll help clean enclosures, prepare species-specific diets, and monitor food intake and waste patterns. You’ll be trained to help during herd checks, pregnancy exams, vaccinations, castrations, and wound treatments in varied environments. You’ll be trained to respond quickly to signs of distress, notifying veterinary staff immediately during critical changes. You’ll be trained to monitor behavior, noting signs of aggression, fear, illness, or improvement and updating the care team. You’ll rotate animals safely for bedding changes, physical support, and hygienic care. You’ll help monitor unusual behaviors that could indicate pain, stress, or infection — even in silent, prey-driven species. You’ll assist with handling emergencies like heat stroke, egg binding, or impactions in reptiles or birds.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Sterilize instruments and prepare surgical packs for upcoming operations.
  • Clean cages, kennels, and surgical areas to maintain a sterile, stress-free environment.
  • Feed, bathe, and walk animals according to care instructions or recovery plans.
  • Administer medications or treatments under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, or continuing education when available.

Preferred:

  • Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and supportive.
  • Organized in maintaining medical records, labeling medications, and preparing treatment areas.
  • Values compassion, attention to detail, and patience in all interactions with animals and owners.
  • Enjoys helping animals feel safe and cared for while supporting the veterinary team.
  • Willing to work evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on the clinic’s hours and emergencies.

Benefits:

  • Emotional reward — knowing that you’ve made a real difference in an animal’s life.
  • Room for growth — from veterinary assistant to lead tech or even practice management roles.
  • Work in a compassionate and supportive environment — we understand the emotional demands of the role and offer a caring workplace.
  • Health, dental, and retirement benefits — we care about your well-being, both inside and outside of work.
  • Team-oriented work culture — you’ll be part of a close-knit team that values each other’s expertise.

You’ll help calm nervous owners, explain procedures, and assist with aftercare instructions for animals being treated on-site. You’ll manage laundry, restock supplies, and keep the clinic clean, organized, and ready for the next patient. You’ll communicate with owners about habitat conditions, diet, and enrichment tips under veterinary guidance. You’ll rotate between front desk support and hands-on care, learning how the full clinic operates smoothly. No experience is required — just a steady hand, strong observational skills, and fascination with the uncommon. This position is ideal for someone pursuing zoological medicine, exotic rescue, or a unique path in veterinary care. This role is perfect for someone who believes every animal deserves a second chance and wants to be part of that journey. If you’re ready to clean messes, calm fears, and cheer for every adoption, we’re ready to train you in shelter care. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
