Description:

We’re hiring a Mail Carrier Trainee to support daily operations at our city post office — perfect for someone who enjoys structured work, customer service, and learning how mail moves from counter to doorstep. You’ll start by learning high-density city routes, using maps and GPS to navigate alleys, apartment blocks, and busy streets efficiently. You’ll be trained to sort letters and parcels by address and delivery order to keep your route smooth and efficient. You’ll be trained to read postal codes, route labels, and special instructions to direct each item to the correct zone. You’ll help with bagging, sealing, and labeling outgoing mailbags for delivery to local, regional, or national destinations. You’ll be taught how to safely approach homes, manage gated entries, and handle mailboxes of all types. You’ll gain confidence in biking through city traffic, using bike lanes and safe crossing points to stay on route. You’ll receive guidance on securing your bike, managing deliveries in bad weather, and staying visible and alert on the road. You’ll help handle rerouted mail, forwarding it when needed or returning undeliverables with notes for follow-up.

Basic Qualifications:

• Obtain signatures for certified or insured deliveries and keep accurate delivery records.
• Take pride in connecting people and businesses through reliable, day-to-day service.
• Sort undeliverable mail and return it to the post office with proper documentation.
• Be physically prepared for long periods of walking, lifting, and repetitive motion.
• Communicate any delays, missed deliveries, or issues with dispatch or supervisors.

Preferred:

• Understands how to handle fragile, perishable, or time-sensitive items appropriately.
• Comfortable with early morning shifts, holiday work, or extended hours during peak seasons.
• Willing to sort incoming mail in preparation for daily delivery rounds.
• Follows mail security protocols, ensuring privacy and safety of all mail and packages handled.
• Values punctuality, consistency, and accountability in every delivery task.
