Description:

We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support the care of exotic animals — perfect for someone who’s curious, gentle, and excited to work with species beyond cats and dogs. You’ll assist in caring for dogs, cats, and sometimes exotics who’ve been rescued, surrendered, or abandoned. You’ll help monitor vitals such as temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, hydration, and behavior throughout the day. You’ll assist with physical exams of cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, and outdoor dogs, ensuring proper restraint and comfort. You’ll assist in holding animals for exams, beak trims, wing clippings, scale checks, or temperature readings. You’ll monitor animals during recovery after surgeries or sedation, reporting any concerns to medical staff immediately. You’ll feed, bathe, and walk animals as needed — especially boarding pets or post-operative patients. You’ll assist during emergencies such as injured strays arriving or outbreaks requiring isolation and sanitation protocols. You’ll help monitor unusual behaviors that could indicate pain, stress, or infection — even in silent, prey-driven species. You’ll work in unpredictable settings — from muddy barns to open pastures — and adapt quickly when conditions change.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Sterilize instruments and prepare surgical packs for upcoming operations.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, or continuing education when available.
  • Ensure all animals receive attention and basic needs even during busy shifts.
  • Help manage inventory by restocking medications, food, and clinic supplies.
  • Prepare bodies for cremation or owner pickup with dignity and respect.

Preferred:

  • Familiar with inventory control, restocking supplies, and ordering medications or lab kits.
  • Enjoys helping animals feel safe and cared for while supporting the veterinary team.
  • Able to help with euthanasia support, grief sensitivity, and respectful handling of deceased pets.
  • Able to communicate clearly with pet owners about post-care instructions, appointments, or check-in procedures.
  • Comfortable comforting anxious animals or clients and offering reassurance during visits.

Benefits:

  • Work in a compassionate and supportive environment — we understand the emotional demands of the role and offer a caring workplace.
  • The ability to make a direct impact — your care and attention to detail matter to every animal you treat.
  • Work alongside compassionate professionals — veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners who value your contributions.
  • Your work directly impacts the well-being of animals — you help heal and comfort them.
  • A role that truly matters — every animal you help, you’re making a difference in their life.

You’ll clean and sterilize specialized tools and surfaces to prevent cross-species contamination and ensure biosecurity. You’ll manage laundry, restock supplies, and keep the clinic clean, organized, and ready for the next patient. You’ll receive mentorship on livestock handling, field safety, and how to stay efficient without sacrificing animal welfare. You’ll be mentored by exotic-focused veterinary professionals who will teach you species-specific skills and safety procedures. You’ll communicate gently with worried owners during updates, drop-offs, or end-of-life discussions as needed. You’ll receive mentorship in emergency response, ICU workflow, and long-term patient management. No prior experience is required — just a deep commitment to animal health, emotional resilience, and attention to detail. If you’re ready to clean messes, calm fears, and cheer for every adoption, we’re ready to train you in shelter care. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
