Description:
We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to join our animal care team — perfect for someone who’s compassionate, reliable, and eager to support both pets and their owners through every stage of care. You’ll assist veterinarians on farms, ranches, and rural homes, caring for livestock, working animals, and outdoor pets. You’ll help monitor vitals such as temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, hydration, and behavior throughout the day. You’ll assist with catheter care, fluid therapy, wound dressing changes, and post-op recovery routines. You’ll assist in holding animals for exams, beak trims, wing clippings, scale checks, or temperature readings. You’ll monitor animals during recovery after surgeries or sedation, reporting any concerns to medical staff immediately. You’ll assist with medical documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting findings during field visits or wellness rounds. You’ll help weigh animals, collect fecal or milk samples, and prepare test kits for on-the-go diagnostics. You’ll support spay/neuter prep and recovery, helping with pre-op cleaning and post-op monitoring of shelter animals. You’ll work in unpredictable settings — from muddy barns to open pastures — and adapt quickly when conditions change.
Basic Qualifications:
- Clean cages, kennels, and surgical areas to maintain a sterile, stress-free environment.
- Prepare exam rooms with necessary tools, supplies, and clean linens before each appointment.
- Help manage inventory by restocking medications, food, and clinic supplies.
- Be the heartbeat behind the scenes that keeps the clinic running smoothly every day.
- Assist with collecting samples such as blood, urine, or feces for lab testing.
Preferred:
- Able to help with euthanasia support, grief sensitivity, and respectful handling of deceased pets.
- Thrives in environments where hands-on care, responsibility, and teamwork come together.
- Organized in maintaining medical records, labeling medications, and preparing treatment areas.
- Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and supportive.
- Able to restrain animals safely and calmly for procedures like vaccinations, nail trims, or blood draws.
Benefits:
- Opportunities to learn — expand your knowledge of animal care, medical procedures, and veterinary practices.
- Work alongside compassionate professionals — veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners who value your contributions.
- Ability to build long-term relationships with pet owners — you’ll become a trusted part of their pet’s health team.
- Team-oriented work culture — you’ll be part of a close-knit team that values each other’s expertise.
- Work in a compassionate and supportive environment — we understand the emotional demands of the role and offer a caring workplace.
You’ll communicate with pet owners politely, answering questions or providing care instructions after visits. You’ll speak with adopters or foster families during pickups, helping explain feeding, meds, or transition tips. You’ll be trained to recognize signs of stress or illness in animals and act quickly to notify the vet team. You’ll be mentored by exotic-focused veterinary professionals who will teach you species-specific skills and safety procedures. No experience is required — just strength, stamina, and a deep respect for animals and the people who care for them. This role is ideal for someone interested in large-animal care, agricultural medicine, or mixed-practice veterinary work. If you’re ready to care for creatures with feathers, scales, and twitching noses — we’re ready to train you where most never go. This position is ideal for someone considering a veterinary technician career or simply looking to make a difference in pet care. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
