Description:

We’re hiring a Translator Trainee to help with subtitles and video content — no experience required, just good listening skills, language precision, and an eye for timing. You’ll assist in translating interface text: buttons, tooltips, error messages, notifications, and onboarding flows. We’ll teach you how to keep translations short, consistent, and intuitive — so they fit design without losing clarity. We’ll guide you through the process of maintaining consistent tone, voice, and terminology across projects. Expect to work on YouTube videos, interviews, podcasts, courses, and short-form content that needs to be understood across languages. You’ll help improve auto-subtitles, edit AI drafts, and make sure translations flow naturally and stay faithful to the original. We’ll guide you through common challenges: idioms, slang, technical terms, formal vs informal tone, and regional differences. You’ll help test localized builds, report layout bugs caused by translation, and suggest shorter or clearer alternatives. We’ll teach you how to maintain glossaries and translation memories, ensuring consistency across screens and updates.

Basic Qualifications:

• Communicate with project managers or clients to clarify expectations, nuances, or formatting needs.
• Be flexible—some projects are casual and fast-paced, others require meticulous attention to tone.
• Ask questions when context is missing—it’s better than guessing and getting it wrong.
• Be extra careful with legal, medical, or sensitive content where precision is critical.
• Stay current with language trends, regional variations, and industry-specific vocabulary.

Preferred:

• Familiar with proofreading workflows and quality assurance standards in the language industry.
• Able to follow specific client style guides, tone of voice, and branding instructions.
• Interested in ongoing language development and staying updated with industry trends.
• Able to maintain meaning, tone, and context during translation across various subject areas.
• Background or interest in linguistics, foreign languages, international relations, or content localization.
