Description:
We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our mobile and rural veterinary service — perfect for someone who’s dependable, flexible, and ready to work beyond the clinic walls. You’ll assist with hospitalized patients recovering from surgery, trauma, or illness, providing constant observation and comfort. You’ll feed, bathe, and clean up after animals, ensuring their kennels and living spaces are safe, dry, and comfortable. You’ll assist with physical exams of cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, and outdoor dogs, ensuring proper restraint and comfort. You’ll assist with health assessments, logging weight, temperature, condition, and any visible injuries or stress signals. You’ll support diagnostic procedures like fecal analysis, blood draws from nontraditional veins, and radiographs for tiny patients. You’ll support oxygen therapy, nebulization, and heating pad use under the direction of veterinary technicians. You’ll assist with sample collection (urine, fecal, etc. You’ll clean and sanitize ICU cages, floors, and equipment multiple times per shift while maintaining quiet and order. You’ll document patient updates clearly in logs or medical software to assist the veterinary team with continuity of care.
Basic Qualifications:
- Stay calm and composed when animals are in pain, scared, or aggressive.
- Maintain accurate records of treatments, weights, vitals, and feeding schedules.
- Prepare bodies for cremation or owner pickup with dignity and respect.
- Support veterinarians during exams and procedures by restraining animals safely and gently.
- Build trust with clients through empathy, active listening, and clear communication.
Preferred:
- Pays attention to animal behavior, signs of distress, or changes in condition and reports them promptly.
- Comfortable handling biological waste, using disinfectants, and practicing biosecurity and PPE use.
- Knowledge of basic animal anatomy, breeds, nutrition, and preventive care practices.
- Familiar with cleaning cages, exam rooms, surgical instruments, and medical equipment following hygiene protocols.
- Comfortable handling cats, dogs, and other small or exotic animals during exams, treatments, or grooming.
