Description:
We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to help ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of buses, trams, or metro systems across the city — perfect for someone who’s detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and committed to public service. You’ll be responsible for monitoring transit vehicles and routes to confirm adherence to schedules, cleanliness standards, and safety regulations. You’ll patrol stations, terminals, and high-traffic routes, keeping watch for disorderly behavior, vandalism, or unauthorized access. You’ll assist in checking lighting, signage, and platform systems to confirm visibility and functionality during low-light hours. You’ll coordinate with station staff, security, and control centers during crowding, signal issues, or other disruptions. You’ll use diagnostic tools, hand instruments, and visual assessments to record detailed vehicle condition reports. You’ll help enforce quiet hours and support operators in handling noise complaints or inappropriate behavior onboard. You’ll rotate through different lines and zones to increase your visibility and presence across the system throughout the night. You’ll rotate between lines, zones, and times of day to ensure comprehensive monitoring across the system.
Basic Qualifications:
- Check tickets and passes, verifying passenger compliance with fare regulations.
- Respond to complaints from passengers calmly and take appropriate steps to resolve issues.
- Contribute to service improvement by reporting recurring issues or rider feedback.
- Work closely with drivers, controllers, and law enforcement to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor stops and terminals for loitering, unauthorized vendors, or potential disruptions.
Preferred:
- Thrives in structured, mission-driven roles where rule enforcement supports safe and reliable travel.
- Comfortable interacting with the public in a respectful and assertive manner while maintaining authority.
- Able to check passenger tickets or passes, verify fare validity, and issue warnings or fines when necessary.
- Familiar with emergency protocols, passenger rights, and proper communication during service disruptions.
- Experience working in public transportation, security, logistics, or regulatory roles.
Benefits:
- Opportunities for overtime — especially during peak travel times or busy seasons.
- Opportunities to move into specialized areas — like ticket inspection, safety compliance, or customer service roles.
- Stability in an essential field — people will always need public transportation, and you’re the one ensuring it’s safe.
- Flexible shifts — full-time, part-time, and rotating shifts available, so you can find the balance that works for you.
- You’ll work in a structured, fair environment where you’re valued as a vital part of the team.
You’ll be expected to remain visible and approachable to deter misconduct and help passengers navigate the system. You’ll receive training in emergency protocols, flashlight signaling, radio communication, and nighttime de-escalation tactics. You’ll work in pairs or small teams to ensure safety and coverage across different routes or areas. You’ll help audit maintenance records, verify service intervals, and confirm that repairs have been completed and signed off. You’ll be mentored by senior inspectors who will show you how to balance authority with respect and efficiency with fairness. You’ll receive mentorship from senior inspectors who will train you in metro-specific protocols and observation strategies. No experience is required — just confidence, honesty, and the ability to stand for long periods and stay calm under pressure. If you’re ready to keep public transport safe, timely, and respectful for everyone — we’re ready to train you to inspect with purpose. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
