Description:
We’re hiring a Game Writer who knows how to break hearts, build tension, and craft narratives that stay with players long after they put the controller down — someone who treats interactive storytelling as both art and architecture. You’ll craft storylines, quests, and characters that entertain, surprise, and invite emotional investment without ever slowing the game down. You’ll write witty, grounded, or intense dialogue — depending on the tone of the world — and make sure each character has a voice of their own. We’ll count on you to work closely with environment artists and level designers to deliver environmental storytelling that feels intentional and alive. We expect you to understand voice, tone, and consistency — and know how to make a character feel real in just three lines. You’ll write believable, layered characters with goals, contradictions, and evolving relationships. You’ll contribute to character creation by defining motivations, flaws, and relationships that evolve over time. You’ll guide the tone and emotional register of each interaction, making sure the player feels immersed and connected. You’ll contribute to cinematic scenes, key emotional moments, and world-reactivity based on player alignment.
Basic Qualifications:
- Respond to feedback from QA, developers, and players to improve narrative clarity and impact.
- Champion the player’s perspective—how will this moment feel, sound, or land emotionally?
- Support cinematic scriptwriting with clear formatting, direction, and emotional nuance.
- Develop branching narratives, quests, and outcomes that react to player choices.
- Ensure consistency in tone, character voice, and story logic across different parts of the game.
Preferred:
- Can contribute to main storylines, side quests, character banter, or interactive tutorials.
- Familiar with content pipelines and how written assets are implemented in game engines like Unity or Unreal.
- Knows how to write text that supports gameplay clarity without overwhelming the player.
- Proficient in using branching dialogue systems, narrative design tools, or scriptwriting software like Twine, Ink, or Celtx.
- Pays attention to narrative consistency, lore logic, and emotional tone across the entire player journey.
Benefits:
- Experiment with branching paths, moral dilemmas, and emotional gut punches.
- We support your growth — GDC talks, narrative bootcamps, or your own IP someday.
- We build worlds together — your lore becomes part of the canon.
- Weekly narrative syncs where we workshop, laugh, and sometimes cry.
- Pitch plot twists, NPC backstories, or item flavor texts — it all matters.
You’ll participate in feedback rounds, iterate quickly, and know when to kill your darlings for the sake of flow or clarity. You’ll use branching dialogue, collectibles, and environmental clues to deliver story in a nonlinear, player-driven way. You’ll be involved in script reviews, localization support, and VO direction to ensure tone carries across languages and voices. This role is ideal for someone who thinks deeply about character arcs, player psychology, and emotional payoff. This role is ideal for a writer who thinks cinematically, edits like a screenwriter, and plays like a poet. We value writers who can write elegantly within systems — and make a game world feel like it existed before the player arrived. If you believe the most powerful stories are the ones players piece together themselves — this is your kind of job. Let’s build dialogue trees that players *want* to explore, from the sarcastic rogue to the tearful final boss.
