Description:

We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker for night shifts focused on street and roadway maintenance — ideal for someone who’s dependable, alert, and comfortable working after hours to keep the city running. You’ll assist in inspecting and repairing road surfaces, curbs, storm drains, and crosswalks during low-traffic hours. You’ll assist with removing litter, sweeping sidewalks, and emptying trash bins in public areas on a set schedule. You’ll support daily trash pickup, graffiti removal, and litter patrols to ensure a welcoming and clean atmosphere for all visitors. You’ll support watering schedules, fertilizing, and pest management using safe, approved methods. You’ll help flush hydrants, clean storm drains, and clear catch basins to ensure proper flow during heavy rain. You’ll help inspect and repair walking paths, fences, signs, and trash receptacles as part of routine maintenance. You’ll support scheduled shut-offs or reconnections for water service and notify affected residents when necessary. You’ll work closely with traffic control teams, utility supervisors, and dispatch during emergency or planned overnight work.

Basic Qualifications:

• Work independently or in crews to complete assignments efficiently and professionally.
• Support seasonal operations such as snow removal, street sweeping, or leaf collection when required.
• Respond to service requests and emergencies, including water main breaks or storm drain blockages.
• Ensure work zones are marked properly with signs, cones, or barriers to protect workers and the public.
• Adapt to changing weather conditions, urgent calls, or rotating shifts without compromising safety.

Preferred:

• Familiar with environmental regulations, public safety standards, and sanitation procedures.
• Able to operate vehicles such as utility trucks, sweepers, or light construction equipment safely and effectively.
• Familiar with basic tools and equipment used for street, sewer, water, or facility maintenance tasks.
• Pays attention to the condition of city property and reports any hazards, damage, or repair needs.
• Organized in completing daily work orders, time logs, and material usage reports accurately.
