Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to join our mobile library team — ideal for someone who enjoys connecting with communities, traveling locally, and making books accessible to everyone. You’ll begin by learning how to assist students and faculty in locating research materials, textbooks, and scholarly articles. You’ll assist in checking books in and out, updating patron records, and issuing library cards at the front desk. You’ll help patrons browse materials, check out books, and register for library cards right on the spot. You’ll help process new arrivals by labeling, stamping, and preparing books, DVDs, and magazines for circulation. You’ll assist with shelving returned materials, updating inventory, and maintaining the quiet, orderly atmosphere of the reading rooms. You’ll assist elderly or mobility-limited patrons in selecting books, placing holds, or accessing large-print and audio materials. You’ll learn how to handle overdue notices, holds, and interlibrary loan requests with professionalism and care. You’ll gain experience answering common questions from parents and teachers about literacy levels, educational resources, or program schedules.

Basic Qualifications:

• Support literacy development through storytime, tutoring, or educational outreach initiatives.
• Assist patrons in finding books, research materials, and digital resources tailored to their needs.
• Take pride in making the library not just a place for books, but a hub for lifelong learning.
• Maintain organized shelves and signage to help users navigate independently.
• Assist students or researchers with citations, academic sources, or archival materials.

Preferred:

• Keeps up with trends in literacy, e-books, and modern information services.
• Wants to grow into roles like Head Librarian, Archivist, Digital Resource Manager, or Library Director.
• Pays attention to metadata accuracy, Dewey Decimal Classification, or Library of Congress standards.
• Values learning, inclusivity, and service in every interaction with patrons.
• Familiar with library catalog software (e.g., Koha, Aleph, Sierra) and digital databases.
