Description:

We’re hiring a Barista Trainee to join our in-office café team, where consistency, professionalism, and warm service are key to starting the workday right for hundreds of guests. You’ll start by learning how to calibrate espresso machines, grind beans to spec, and prepare pour-over setups with care. You’ll observe and then assist with grinding, tamping, and pulling espresso shots while learning to taste and adjust for balance. You’ll be trained to take orders quickly, remember regulars, and make every interaction feel personal, even in a rush. You’ll learn how to balance speed with care, delivering drinks quickly without cutting corners on quality. You’ll support keeping the workspace tidy — wiping counters, washing tools, and helping with dish rotation during rushes. You’ll be taught the basics of extraction, mouthfeel, and how water temperature affects flavor. You’ll be trained in professional presentation, time management, and how to stay composed even when orders stack up. You’ll assist with basic baking, food handling, and plating of pastries or snacks when needed.

Basic Qualifications:

• Operate coffee equipment like grinders, espresso machines, and milk steamers safely and efficiently.
• Upsell pastries, snacks, or merchandise when appropriate without being pushy.
• Customize drinks based on preferences—milk alternatives, extra shots, flavors, or temperatures.
• Help keep the café atmosphere welcoming, relaxing, and on-brand.
• Adapt quickly when orders are changed, mistakes happen, or supplies run low.

Preferred:

• Can manage opening/closing tasks including cash handling, cleaning, and prepping for the next shift.
• Understands how to manage customer queues, prepare orders efficiently, and maintain a welcoming atmosphere.
• Pays attention to allergen safety, cross-contamination, and customer dietary preferences.
• Capable of supporting team members and stepping into other roles when necessary for smooth operations.
• Willing to assist with food prep, pastry display, and light cleaning duties during slow periods.
