Description:
We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our inpatient care and ICU — ideal for someone who stays calm under pressure and wants to help animals during their most vulnerable moments. You’ll assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures, ensuring animals are calm and secure. You’ll help load and organize the mobile unit with equipment, vaccines, supplies, and portable diagnostic tools before each visit. You’ll assist in cleaning and sterilizing exam rooms, surgical tools, and cages after each appointment or procedure. You’ll assist in holding animals for exams, beak trims, wing clippings, scale checks, or temperature readings. You’ll be trained to respond quickly to signs of distress, notifying veterinary staff immediately during critical changes. You’ll assist with medical documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting findings during field visits or wellness rounds. You’ll assist in setting up UV lighting, humidity controls, heating pads, or misting systems for exotic recovery areas. You’ll support emergency calls involving lameness, colic, birth complications, or animal injuries in barns or fields. You’ll work in unpredictable settings — from muddy barns to open pastures — and adapt quickly when conditions change.
Basic Qualifications:
- Maintain accurate records of treatments, weights, vitals, and feeding schedules.
- Respond quickly in emergencies and support the team in triage situations.
- Assist with collecting samples such as blood, urine, or feces for lab testing.
- Build trust with clients through empathy, active listening, and clear communication.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, or continuing education when available.
Preferred:
- Willing to assist in feeding, bathing, walking, and monitoring animals in recovery or boarding.
- Familiar with inventory control, restocking supplies, and ordering medications or lab kits.
- Values compassion, attention to detail, and patience in all interactions with animals and owners.
- Comfortable handling cats, dogs, and other small or exotic animals during exams, treatments, or grooming.
- Pays attention to detail when measuring dosages, labeling samples, or updating charts.
Benefits:
- Your work directly impacts the well-being of animals — you help heal and comfort them.
- A job that keeps you active — no sitting behind a desk, just working alongside animals and their owners.
- Team-oriented work culture — you’ll be part of a close-knit team that values each other’s expertise.
- A fulfilling career — helping animals in need gives you a sense of purpose every day.
- Work alongside compassionate professionals — veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners who value your contributions.
You’ll communicate with pet owners politely, answering questions or providing care instructions after visits. You’ll manage laundry, restock supplies, and keep the clinic clean, organized, and ready for the next patient. You’ll communicate with owners about habitat conditions, diet, and enrichment tips under veterinary guidance. You’ll be mentored by exotic-focused veterinary professionals who will teach you species-specific skills and safety procedures. You’ll communicate gently with worried owners during updates, drop-offs, or end-of-life discussions as needed. You’ll receive mentorship in emergency response, ICU workflow, and long-term patient management. This role is perfect for someone who believes every animal deserves a second chance and wants to be part of that journey. If you’re ready to care for animals when they need it most, we’re ready to train you in veterinary inpatient support. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
