Description:

We’re hiring a Mail Processing Trainee to join our overnight sorting team — ideal for someone who enjoys focused work, quiet environments, and behind-the-scenes logistics. You’ll begin by shadowing experienced carriers on walking, driving, or biking routes, observing how deliveries are organized and prioritized. You’ll be trained to load your delivery bag properly, keeping packages protected and organizing mail by building and floor. You’ll be trained to use postal systems to scan, weigh, and label items correctly for local and international destinations. You’ll help customers with postage options, tracking questions, and mailing forms — always with a helpful attitude. You’ll support pickups as well — collecting outgoing mail from offices, businesses, and shared residential buildings. You’ll be shown how to deliver in various weather conditions — from summer heat to muddy back roads or snowy driveways. You’ll assist in keeping records of misrouted items, rejected barcodes, and damaged packaging that needs inspection. You’ll be trained to lift properly, use carts or dollies, and follow safety procedures for repetitive tasks and heavy loads.

Basic Qualifications:

• Support a positive image of the postal service through punctuality and professionalism.
• Follow assigned routes efficiently while adapting to detours, traffic, or road conditions.
• Collect outgoing mail from homes and drop boxes, ensuring proper postage and handling.
• Contribute to a team environment when helping with sorting, rerouting, or training new hires.
• Maintain confidentiality of personal or business information seen during deliveries.

Preferred:

• Willing to sort incoming mail in preparation for daily delivery rounds.
• Background or interest in logistics, delivery, or postal services.
• Can quickly learn new routes or adjust to coverage areas when covering other carriers.
• Familiar with organizing, sorting, and loading mail or packages for efficient route delivery.
• Understands the responsibility of handling sensitive documents and time-critical deliveries.

You’ll receive training on how to handle certified mail, signature-required deliveries, and restricted items properly. You’ll work independently for most of the day, but stay in communication with your supervisor for support and updates. You’ll support postal team operations by organizing undelivered items and reporting incorrect or unsafe addresses. You’ll assist with closing duties such as counting till drawers, securing outbound mailbags, and locking storage areas. You’ll work independently for most of your shift but always stay connected to the supervisor and postmaster for updates. No experience is needed — just a valid license, strong reliability, and a willingness to work outdoors in changing conditions.
