Description:

We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our inpatient care and ICU — ideal for someone who stays calm under pressure and wants to help animals during their most vulnerable moments. You’ll assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures, ensuring animals are calm and secure. You’ll help load and organize the mobile unit with equipment, vaccines, supplies, and portable diagnostic tools before each visit. You’ll assist in cleaning and sterilizing exam rooms, surgical tools, and cages after each appointment or procedure. You’ll help administer medications, record dosages, and ensure patients stay on their treatment schedules. You’ll clean and disinfect boots, tools, and mobile gear between sites to avoid cross-contamination. You’ll learn how to safely administer medications orally, topically, or via injection depending on species and size. You’ll assist in setting up UV lighting, humidity controls, heating pads, or misting systems for exotic recovery areas. You’ll support emergency calls involving lameness, colic, birth complications, or animal injuries in barns or fields. You’ll document patient updates clearly in logs or medical software to assist the veterinary team with continuity of care.

Basic Qualifications:

• Respond quickly in emergencies and support the team in triage situations.
• Support veterinarians during exams and procedures by restraining animals safely and gently.
• Handle front desk duties including scheduling, answering phones, and processing payments when needed.
• Administer medications or treatments under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
• Prepare bodies for cremation or owner pickup with dignity and respect.

Preferred:

• Pays attention to detail when measuring dosages, labeling samples, or updating charts.
• Familiar with common veterinary terms, medications, and vaccine schedules.
• Knowledge of basic animal anatomy, breeds, nutrition, and preventive care practices.
• Background or passion in animal care, veterinary science, zoology, or pet services.
• Wants to grow into roles like Veterinary Technician, Animal Nurse, or Vet Clinic Manager.

You’ll clean cages, dishes, blankets, and floors multiple times a day as part of core hygiene routines. You’ll speak with adopters or foster families during pickups, helping explain feeding, meds, or transition tips. You’ll be trained to recognize signs of stress or illness in animals and act quickly to notify the vet team. You’ll be expected to maintain strict infection control standards to protect both patients and other animals.
