Description:
We’re looking for an Online Chat Moderator who knows how to keep conversations safe, respectful, and engaging in fast-paced digital spaces. This role is about more than just deleting comments — you’ll be actively involved in building a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for all users. This isn’t just about banning trolls — it’s about cultivating a space where real conversations can thrive. You’ll be the one spotting inappropriate behavior, answering common questions, guiding users, and enforcing rules with fairness and empathy. You should be comfortable multitasking across different platforms (think Discord, Telegram, live events, forums) and using moderation tools to take quick action when needed. A strong sense of fairness, attention to detail, and clear communication are essential — you’ll need to be calm under pressure and quick to de-escalate conflict without sounding robotic.
Basic Qualifications:
- Attend team syncs or mod check-ins to align on priorities, tone, and recurring issues.
- Maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive issues like harassment or user reports.
- Monitor live chat rooms, forums, or community channels to maintain respectful and safe conversations.
- Be available for weekend or evening shifts if chat activity peaks during those times.
- Engage with users in a friendly, professional tone to encourage positive interactions and answer basic questions.
Preferred:
- Familiar with basic online etiquette and understands what behavior is unacceptable.
- Curious about how digital communities grow and how to protect them.
- Currently studying communication, psychology, media, or related fields.
- Excited to contribute to a positive, well-moderated online environment.
- Open to learning moderation software and reporting systems.
Benefits:
- Weekly vibe check-ins — we care how you're doing, not just what you're moderating.
- All scripts, rules, and tone guides are provided — but your human judgment is trusted.
- Trolls get banned, but moderators get bonuses — that’s how we roll.
- Grow into community lead, trainer, or platform admin — we promote from within.
- You’ll help keep digital spaces safe, inclusive, and (mostly) drama-free.
You’ll also be responsible for documenting incidents, escalating serious issues to senior staff, and keeping an eye out for patterns that could signal a bigger problem. If you’ve ever been the person who says, “Let’s all keep it respectful,” and actually meant it, this role is for you. You’ll collaborate with the support team to report recurring issues, flag problematic patterns, and suggest ways to improve the overall user experience. If not, but you’ve spent time in digital communities and understand what good moderation feels like, we still want to hear from you. If you’ve ever thought, “This space could be better if someone just stepped in,” this is your moment to be that someone.
