Description:
We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee who’s excited to learn how to turn fabric into garments, adjust fits, and bring creative ideas to life with a needle and thread. You’ll assist in sewing, altering, and prepping costumes for stage, film, or television productions under the guidance of experienced costume designers. You’ll be trained to work with various materials — from heavy period fabrics to stretchwear, lace, sequins, and leather. You’ll help pin garments for fitting under supervision, learning how to read body language and measure for comfort as well as fit. You’ll help take client measurements and assist during fittings by noting changes needed for length, bust, waist, and hips. You’ll learn how to make alterations on dresses, pants, jackets, and uniforms — from shortening sleeves to reshaping waists. You’ll help label, inventory, and organize costumes by character, scene, or performance day. You’ll be taught to estimate turnaround times and prioritize urgent items like uniforms, suits, or event outfits. You’ll receive instruction on how to preserve costumes during long runs, transport them between locations, and handle delicate or high-value items.
Basic Qualifications:
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation and keep tools in good working order.
- Sew, alter, and repair garments by hand or using industrial sewing machines with precision and care.
- Handle delicate or high-value garments with extra attention and discretion.
- Work with a variety of materials including silk, denim, wool, and stretch fabrics.
- Pin, mark, and baste fabrics during the alteration process to ensure accuracy.
Preferred:
- Comfortable performing clothing alterations, repairs, or custom fittings for individual clients or production needs.
- Values precision, craftsmanship, and client satisfaction in every stitch.
- Enjoys transforming fabric into functional or decorative clothing pieces.
- Willing to support inventory management, fabric sourcing, or accessory assembly when required.
- Willing to assist in pressing, steaming, and final presentation of finished pieces.
Benefits:
- Quiet, focused workspace — no loud chaos, just the hum of the machine.
- Your workspace is stocked — threads, scissors, irons, and even good lighting.
- Quiet music, tea breaks, and clean tables — a calm environment matters.
- You see instant results — from loose thread to perfect fit.
- There’s pride in every hem, dart, and invisible zipper.
You’ll rotate between hand-sewing, machine stations, and customer service desks to understand the entire process. You’ll gain exposure to all kinds of clothing — from leather jackets to wedding gowns to school uniforms — learning how to handle each properly. You’ll be part of a team that combines artistry, logistics, and craftsmanship under real production deadlines. You’ll rotate between prep, alteration, and finishing stations to learn the entire couture workflow. You’ll learn how to store and protect gowns, handle last-minute requests, and communicate with the front desk team. No experience is required — just patience, good hands, and a willingness to start slow and get it right. This internship is ideal for someone interested in fashion, tailoring, costume design, or textile arts. This internship is perfect for someone interested in couture tailoring, fashion design, or luxury garment work. If you’re ready to work with lace, patience, and love, we’re ready to train you in the bridal atelier.
