Description:
We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker to assist with water and sewer system maintenance — ideal for someone who’s dependable, safety-minded, and ready to support vital infrastructure every day. You’ll assist with mowing lawns, trimming bushes, and edging pathways to maintain a neat and welcoming appearance in parks and recreation areas. You’ll assist with removing litter, sweeping sidewalks, and emptying trash bins in public areas on a set schedule. You’ll be trained to operate tools like valve keys, hydrant wrenches, pressure gauges, and inspection cameras. You’ll assist with locating leaks, identifying blockages, and helping repair cracked pipes, joints, or manhole covers. You’ll assist in painting public fixtures, cleaning signs, and maintaining bus stops, benches, and fountains. You’ll help prep event spaces, install signage or barricades, and support public gatherings by setting up benches, bins, or barriers. You’ll assist in maintaining planter beds, edging grass near walkways, and watering trees or greenery throughout the space. You’ll be expected to pick up litter, remove graffiti, and empty waste bins regularly along trails, picnic areas, and pavilions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members to stay aligned on tasks and priorities.
- Provide excellent service to residents or businesses affected by outages, repairs, or inspections.
- Clear debris from streets, drains, or public areas to maintain functionality and safety.
- Read utility maps, blueprints, or schematics to locate underground lines and plan repairs.
- Support seasonal operations such as snow removal, street sweeping, or leaf collection when required.
Preferred:
- Understands the importance of protecting public infrastructure and keeping communities safe and functional.
- Pays attention to the condition of city property and reports any hazards, damage, or repair needs.
- Familiar with environmental regulations, public safety standards, and sanitation procedures.
- Able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts depending on public service needs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks.
