Description:

We’re hiring a Game Writer who can craft characters players will love, hate, and never forget — someone who understands that great storytelling in games is about choice, emotion, and consequence. You’ll shape character arcs, narrative structure, and thematic resonance across an emotionally driven player journey. You’ll collaborate with designers, artists, and developers to align story beats with mechanics, pacing, and level structure. You’ll write dialogue, item descriptions, cinematic scripts, and branching narratives that adapt to player choices and personalities. You’ll help shape the game’s lore, faction histories, and moral dilemmas that define the player’s journey. You’ll design factions, belief systems, and regional identities that shape both the world and its characters. You’ll contribute to character creation by defining motivations, flaws, and relationships that evolve over time. We’ll rely on you to punch up boring lines, remove the fluff, and make everything feel alive, reactive, and intentional. You’ll contribute to cinematic scenes, key emotional moments, and world-reactivity based on player alignment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Adapt tone and writing style to match the game's genre—whether it’s dark, humorous, epic, or quirky.
  • Help shape emotional player experiences through dialogue pacing, choice consequences, and environmental storytelling.
  • Be flexible and creative when rewriting for design changes or voiceover constraints.
  • Document lore, characters, and storylines so other teams can reference and build on them.
  • Pitch new storylines, characters, or content updates that keep the game world fresh.

Preferred:

  • Pays attention to narrative consistency, lore logic, and emotional tone across the entire player journey.
  • Proficient in using branching dialogue systems, narrative design tools, or scriptwriting software like Twine, Ink, or Celtx.
  • Open to iterating story content based on gameplay changes, level design feedback, or QA testing outcomes.
  • Experience writing dialogue, character arcs, and storylines for games, interactive fiction, or narrative-driven experiences.
  • Can contribute to main storylines, side quests, character banter, or interactive tutorials.

Benefits:

  • Write for main quests, side stories, item descriptions, loading screens — the whole world.
  • Flexible hours — the muse doesn’t run on a 9-to-5 schedule.
  • Experiment with branching paths, moral dilemmas, and emotional gut punches.
  • Your name in the credits — not buried under “additional writing support.”
  • Collaborate with level designers, artists, and audio to make your scenes hit.

We expect you to think structurally — how story is revealed, layered, and recontextualized based on pacing and player path. You’ll collaborate with level designers to embed story into the world — not just as text, but as space, silence, and symbol. You should be comfortable using narrative design tools and working in nonlinear, branching systems. You’ll work within complex branching systems, making sure emotional payoff doesn’t get lost in technical flowcharts. You’ll work with editors, actors, and translators to keep tone consistent — even across wildly different moments. We value writers who are flexible, collaborative, and open to iteration based on gameplay needs and design shifts. If you think great writing means great pacing, great payoff, and great characters — this is your party. Let’s build a world that feels ancient, lived-in, and worth getting lost in.
