Description:

We’re looking for a beginner Tailor who’s ready to learn the timeless craft of garment making and alterations. No experience? You’ll begin by supporting experienced tailors with small but important tasks like organizing tools and preparing garments. You’ll observe skilled tailors as they work on suits, dresses, coats, and custom pieces. You’ll help prepare garments for fittings, steam out wrinkles, and hand over freshly pressed pieces with pride. You’ll also practice ironing, pinning garments, and preparing items for fittings and final touches. We’ll teach you how to read alteration notes, mark clothing correctly, and maintain a clean, organized workspace. Your first stitches may be small — fixing linings, adjusting cuffs — but they’ll be the start of something lasting. You’ll train your eye to see symmetry, your hands to steady under pressure, and your mind to solve quiet problems.

Basic Qualifications:

• Track materials and supplies needed for upcoming projects, helping maintain stock of threads, linings, and zippers.
• Handle minor repairs such as fixing zippers, replacing buttons, patching holes, or re-stitching seams quickly and efficiently.
• Collaborate with bridal boutiques, fashion designers, dry cleaners, or retail stores for bulk alteration services or specialty fittings.
• Maintain and care for tailoring tools and equipment, including needles, irons, scissors, sewing machines, and mannequins.
• Work with delicate fabrics (silk, lace, chiffon) or structured materials (denim, wool, leather) using appropriate techniques.

Preferred:

• Willing to suggest design adjustments to improve comfort, mobility, or style.
• Can maintain tailoring equipment and perform basic machine upkeep when necessary.
• Comfortable performing tasks such as hemming, tapering, resizing, and replacing zippers or buttons.
• Thrives in quiet, detail-focused work environments that allow for creativity and refinement.
• Understands garment construction and how to disassemble and rebuild pieces for a better fit.
