Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to join our mobile library team — ideal for someone who enjoys connecting with communities, traveling locally, and making books accessible to everyone. You’ll begin by learning how to handle fragile documents, photographs, and rare books using proper gloves and tools. You’ll assist in labeling, filing, and organizing physical collections according to archival standards and cataloging systems. You’ll be trained to answer common questions — from finding a specific author to locating quiet study areas or using the catalog. You’ll help inventory boxes, sort through donations, and assess what should be preserved, stored, or restored. You’ll support literacy activities like storytime, book clubs, or simple reading games during scheduled visits. You’ll learn how to read aloud with expression and clarity during read-along sessions or group storytelling. You’ll assist in logging children’s reading progress during seasonal programs like summer reading challenges. You’ll gain experience maintaining a welcoming, flexible space in a small but functional mobile environment.

Basic Qualifications:

• Assist with interlibrary loans and special orders to expand access for patrons.
• Promote library services both in person and online to broaden community engagement.
• Oversee the acquisition of new books, periodicals, and digital materials based on community demand.
• Create displays and themed collections to highlight seasonal topics, cultural events, or local authors.
• Assist patrons in finding books, research materials, and digital resources tailored to their needs.

Preferred:

• Familiar with assisting patrons who have disabilities or limited technology access.
• Experience managing physical and digital collections, including acquisition, classification, and circulation of materials.
• Can collaborate with teachers, local organizations, or IT departments on education and outreach.
• Thrives in quiet, organized, mission-driven environments focused on education and access.
• Organized in maintaining catalog records, shelving systems, and overdue tracking procedures.
