Description:
We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker for night shifts focused on street and roadway maintenance — ideal for someone who’s dependable, alert, and comfortable working after hours to keep the city running. You’ll assist in inspecting and repairing road surfaces, curbs, storm drains, and crosswalks during low-traffic hours. You’ll be trained to use cones, warning signs, and reflective gear to secure work zones and direct nighttime drivers safely. You’ll support daily trash pickup, graffiti removal, and litter patrols to ensure a welcoming and clean atmosphere for all visitors. You’ll be trained to use small equipment like leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, pressure washers, and push mowers safely. You’ll help sweep debris from intersections, gutters, and construction zones using manual or mechanical tools. You’ll help identify and report hazards such as broken sidewalks, graffiti, or blocked drains to your supervisor or relevant departments. You’ll support seasonal work such as snow shoveling, salting walkways, or removing storm debris during weather events. You’ll assist with basic facility maintenance such as restroom cleaning, minor repairs, and restocking supplies in public buildings.
Basic Qualifications:
- Work independently or in crews to complete assignments efficiently and professionally.
- Uphold high standards of public trust by treating community infrastructure with care and respect.
- Assist in troubleshooting electrical, water, or waste systems with senior technicians or supervisors.
- Assist with installation or upgrades of pipes, meters, hydrants, or other public service components.
- Inspect utility systems regularly to identify wear, leaks, or potential hazards.
Preferred:
- Capable of inspecting and maintaining public infrastructure like storm drains, hydrants, water lines, or park facilities.
- Wants to grow into roles like Crew Leader, Equipment Operator, or Utility Supervisor.
- Follows directions from supervisors and reads site plans, blueprints, or instructions for job assignments.
- Organized in completing daily work orders, time logs, and material usage reports accurately.
- Comfortable lifting, digging, shoveling, and using hand or power tools for extended periods.
Benefits:
- You’ll make a tangible impact — keeping the lights on, water flowing, and gas available is a critical service.
- Job stability in a critical sector — utilities are always needed, making your role indispensable.
- Your work keeps essential services running — you help provide water, electricity, and gas to communities.
- Room for growth — from general worker to maintenance technician or managerial roles.
- A role that makes a real difference — you’ll be part of something that directly impacts people's lives.
You’ll support leaf collection, snow removal, and other seasonal tasks depending on weather and park needs. You’ll follow city safety guidelines, wear protective gear, and use traffic cones or warning signs when working roadside. You’ll assist with loading equipment, maintaining vehicles, and restocking fittings and repair materials after each job. You’ll receive guidance on plant identification, irrigation systems, and how to report hazards like broken branches or flooding. You’ll rotate between multiple parks and green spaces in your district to keep each area consistent and well-maintained. You’ll help track tasks completed, materials used, and areas serviced each day on digital or paper logs. No prior experience is required — just dependability, physical energy, and a love for keeping nature accessible to all. This role is perfect for someone interested in essential work, municipal careers, or skilled utility operations. If you’re ready to care for the places where the city gathers, strolls, and rests — we’re ready to bring you onto the team.
